Art

At Baguley Hall Primary School, we place a high value on art as one of the highest forms of human creativity.  We recognise that art should engage, inspire and challenge pupils whilst equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. . Where appropriate, the art curriculum at Baguley Hall makes full use resources and opportunities within the immediate and wider local area enabling children to develop a deep understanding of the various skills and techniques within the art curriculum.

The art curriculum at Baguley Hall is carefully planned and structured to ensure that current learning is linked to previous learning and that the school’s approaches are informed by current pedagogy. In line with the national curriculum 2014, the curriculum at Baguley Hall aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences

  • Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques

  • Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design

  • Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

At Baguley Hall we teach art in blocks throughout the year on a two year cycle. Our curriculum covers four strands of art which are revisited to develop children's depth . These are :

  • painting

  • drawing (including drawing to develop a design idea)

  • sculpture

  • printing

Each unit within the topic follows the same cycle of learning:

  • Lesson 1- explore pieces of artwork

  • Lesson 2 and Lesson 3 - gather ideas, practise and learn new skills

  • Lesson 4 and Lesson 5 -create a piece of art work

  • Lesson 6- reflect, edit and evaluate our art work

Year 3 and 4 immersed themselves in the world of David Hockney on their trip to Factory International's exhibition. The children loved seeing his work on the big screens and learning about the processes of how he creates his pieces of art.
