At Baguley Hall we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum in Nursery and Reception and the National Curriculum in Key Stage 1 and 2.
Reading and phonics: Letters and Sounds, supported by the Jolly Phonics materials, Phonics Bug books and resources and Support for Spelling is used across school for the teaching of reading and spelling. Applied reading skills are developed during Guided Reading Sessions, 1:1 reading support provision and with our Home Reader collections. We use a variety of schemes including: Book Bands, Oxford Reading Tree, Collins Big Cats, Rigby Stars and Rigby Navigators.
Our broad curriculum is carefully planned and presented in an interesting, exciting and imaginative manner with lots of opportunities for first-hand experience, practical work, investigation and learning through play. It is enlivened and enriched by visits, visitors, and extensive use of the environment. The basics are taught well and the creative aspects, including art, poetry, story, dance, music, performance are central to our work.
Our curriculum is underpinned by our SMSC work as a Peacemala school and our progress towards Level 1 of the Unicef Rights Respecting School Award Programme.
In Key Stages 1 and 2 topics are taught in a two year cycle.
